Living Conditions and Behavioral & Mental Patterns

Introduction

The central paper’s theory states that a person’s life circumstances directly influence his behavior patterns. Various kinds of trauma can provoke such social phenomena as a violation of the social reality’s understanding and the decent ability to contact people. In addition, traumatic living conditions can affect the physiological characteristics of the body, causing various negative consequences.

The Topic Summary

Mental health describes a person’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being. According to the World Health Organization, mental well-being is described as a cognitive state in which a person recognizes their capabilities, can manage everyday tensions, and works constructively (Comeau & Boyle, 2018). It influences eating habits, physical activity levels, substance use behaviors, and how people think, feels and deals with challenging situations. However, everything is interconnected: many aspects of mental stability and adequate behavior can be affected by the quality of life and the presence of traumatic circumstances.

The Poverty Impact on Mentality

Many people believe that to fight poverty, they need to work on personal psychological perspectives, and it is enough to learn the right financial thinking to resolve any financial crisis. But poverty is not always caused by financial mistakes. It often turns into a vicious circle, from which it is unattainable to get out, even with a strong wish. It is partly due to the lack of mental and physical resources. Many people experience severe financial anxiety, but sometimes it becomes so intense that it looks more like post-traumatic stress disorder. Trauma of this kind holds back personal progress and has a destructive effect on the victim’s behavior and coping mechanism (Comeau & Boyle, 2018). Even if the money problem is solved, this anxiety does not always leave.

The fact is that poverty is much more than just a lack of money and resources. Its influence on life is vast; many processes in the body change under such influence. The main mechanism that turns poverty into a physiological problem is stress. The nervous system starts a mobilized state: cortisol levels, blood pressure, and heart rate increase. Blood rushes to the muscles; they become tense and ready for increased stress (Comeau & Boyle, 2018). It helps a person respond more successfully to threats and stay in the necessary tonus. If the nervous system is constantly thrilled, it exhausts the body and rebuilds its work. As a result, a person cannot function normally and ruins behavioral patterns.

The Traumatic Living Conditions Impact on Mentality

Post-traumatic stress is a normal reaction to traumatic moments in the past. Some life circumstances can make a person to go through a concussion repeatedly. Causing reasons can vary, ranging from ongoing abuse by family members to a severely negative school environment. A person gets used to the survival mode and significantly changes his strategy of behavior. Some traumas are very deep; even a change of location, social circle, and living conditions does not relieve excessive irritability and suspicion.

Conclusion

There is a significant relationship between living conditions and people’s behavioral and mental patterns. Injuries can be caused by a range of negative influences, from financial insufficiency to physiological and psychological abuse. Such harms usually remain in a person for a long time and set the tempo of his life. In such cases, effective therapy from a specialist is needed to overcome post-traumatic disorders.
