Openness to Change and Workplace Success

The big five personality survey is a widespread test created in psychological trait theory. It can effectively determine a job candidate’s openness to change, ability to communicate with colleagues, personal organization, skills of acquiring common solutions, and quality of workplace sustainability. It may be especially useful when the measurement is made before and after some educational intervention. The survey results show the significant changes in figures over the period that should be properly addressed.

To prove this position, it is crucial to discuss academic literature on the correlation between openness to change and companies success. Fernández-Mesa et al. (2020) argue that “openness to experience moderates the relationship between task significance and continuance commitment” (p. 610). Nevertheless, the research seems to propose mixed evidence for the direct relationship with workplace success. One possible explanation is that it explains only part of success, while other factors are also important.

The excel table shows the considerable reduction of openness to the new experience by ten points. It accounts for the second largest change over the period between all variables. The more significant change was only with the ‘Agreeableness’ indicator, which climbed from 9 to 21 points. In fact, openness to change is extremely important in contemporary workplace success because of the scope of innovations in almost all industries. For example, one of the mainstream topics in leadership research is the study of transformational leadership and its influence on workplace improvement. Such type of leadership is focused on deriving techniques and strategies to enhance creativity and openness to change among employees (Kotamena et al., 2020). Therefore, such a reduction should be carefully adjusted because openness to experiences is valuable for any professional.

To conclude, academic research did not clearly represent a direct association between openness to experience and workplace success. Still, it is an important part of any company’s success, especially in the era of transformational leadership. The results of the big five personality survey showed many aspects for improvement. The most concerning tendency, which should be changed, is the high reduction of openness to experience.
