Human life is full of activities that promote and hinder healthy associations among them. While some activities are aimed at strengthening human relations, others are bent on ensuring there are conflicts and quarrels among people. Some people have weird perceptions of life that make them think of life as a torturous process rather than full of pleasures. They resort to various anti-social activities that dehumanize others (Evelyn 2012). However, not all perpetrators of these bad behaviors are to blame for their actions. While others do it because of drug and substance abuse, others are motivated by fun and their psychological orientations. There is a close relationship between bullying and suicide as shown in the following discussion. Bullying is an act of exercising power over other human beings through verbal, physical, or emotional actions. The bully wants to show dominance and the ability to manipulate and control almost all aspects of their victims’ lives. Bullying occurs in various places including homes, churches, workplaces, schools, and prisons. On the other hand, suicide refers to the intentional termination of an individual’s life as a result of dissatisfaction and desperation in life. There is a close relationship between bullying and suicide as is evident in many behavioral correlation methods. However, this essay will focus on the positive and negative correlation methods between bullying and suicide. In the positive correlation, the essay will analyze how bullying leads to positive aspects in individuals’ lives (Gaskell 2011).
In this case, bullying becomes an inevitable motivator for individuals to know their right positions in society. Not all victims of bullying succumb to the pressures of this act. Some individuals gain self-esteem and confidence through bullying (Gaskell 2011). The more such victims continue to be bullied, the more they continue to develop their personalities and become more confident. Physical or psychological bullying may result in compensatory behavior like hard work to gain material wealth to compensate for a lack of masculinity or verbal prowess. Bullies have confidence and a feel of dominance over others. This enables them to prepare for future roles like supervision and disciplinary duties. Instead of perceiving themselves as sadists, they view their attributes as potentials for exceptional leadership in the future. However, the negative correlation between bullying and suicide has far much more devastating impacts than positive roles. Bullying is discriminatory. It classifies people according to their ability to suppress others in society. The act makes the victims feel inferior and unworthy in society. It leads to continued desperation that is punctuated with stress and depressions (Evelyn 2012). The result of this is usually devastating since victims turn to drug and substance abuse to compensate for the oppressions they undergo. However, if such escapist tactics fail to work such individuals turn to suicide as alternatives to their woes. Most suicide victims have a history tainted with emotional, physical, or verbal forms of bullying.
Bullying is one of the main reasons why teenagers commit suicide in modern society. Parents should watch over their children in order to identify and help them fight the effects of bullying. In addition, people who suffer from bullying resort to withdrawal behavior since they perceive other members of society to discriminate against them. With time, the victims isolate themselves from others due to the inferiority complex, and this increases their chances of committing suicide.
