The Importance of Swift Crisis Intervention
Crises frequently result in post-traumatic disorders that require professional counseling services. Post-traumatic stress disorder is common among those who have experienced crisis events (Cavaiola & Colford, 2018). Therefore, acting swiftly in crises is imperative to evade these possibilities (Remsberg, 2018). Since I have not encountered a crisis within the past six weeks, I imagine an occurrence that could arise and describe the skills, strategies, or techniques I would use to intervene from the course. Both internal and external elements must be taken into account to handle a crisis effectively.
Understanding the Widow’s Situation and Background
A woman in my neighborhood has lost her husband, who sadly committed suicide. While this is the obvious cause of her distress, losing her husband may only be part of her woes if there are other underlying challenges. Grief and sorrow are inevitable responses to losing a loved one or other significant person (Briggs, 2014).
To deal with the problem and rescue the distraught widow, I would try to learn more about her and her late husband’s history. I would first question her about it and see if I can learn anything from her immediate circle of friends and family. If I were in this position, I would investigate why her husband took his life.
Addressing Financial and Emotional Challenges
If the husband had experienced a major financial loss that distressed him, for instance, I would know the woman is troubled by the loss of camaraderie and the role the husband performed in the family. If I were to step in, I would have a widow talk to her. This would be an effort to reassure her that, despite her loss, she could still succeed in life, just like other widows. By connecting with another person who understands her difficulties, the woman would receive emotional support from her newfound companion. I would also conduct a funds drive to rally financial aid from loved ones and acquaintances to help the woman from being overwhelmed by the weight of family responsibilities.
The Role of Emotional Support and Counseling in Recovery
Professional counseling services are often needed after a crisis because of the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder. Internal and external factors are equally important when responding to crises. In the hypothetical situation in this study, a woman in my area recently lost her husband due to suicide. The woman would benefit psychologically from connecting with someone who knows what she is going through.
