Introduction
Today, the psychological field increasingly discusses what is more important: emotional intelligence or IQ. We can argue which indicators are more important and even agree that they are equivalent. But at the same time, intelligence and emotional intelligence give us completeness as individuals and as social entities (Yadav & Lata, 2019). In this discussion, I want to analyze the topic and offer my point of view on this issue.
The Importance of Various Types of Intelligence
To argue my point, we can say that emotional intelligence and intelligence must be used together to make significant decisions and achieve the highest results. Intelligence is used for logical analysis and problem solving, while emotional intelligence helps in social relationships and decision-making based on understanding one’s own and other people’s feelings.
Both kinds of intelligence are essential to human flourishing. IQ refers to the technical side of intelligence and determines our ability to perceive and process information and learn. Emotional intelligence, on the other hand, is responsible for our ability to perceive, interpret, and respond to the emotions of others. This allows us to build relationships and achieve goals using emotions, not just logic (Pishghadam et al., 2022). Therefore, emotional intelligence is perhaps more important than IQ, as it has wider applications.
It can be said that intelligence and emotional intelligence must interact to achieve the best results. Without one, it will be difficult for us to work effectively and relate successfully to other people (Lubbadeh, 2020). In this regard, I think we can enhance our intellectual abilities by developing our emotional intelligence, social skills, and knowledge. This will help us make better decisions in any situation.
Conclusion
In general, to achieve a complete decision-making process, both indicators, IQ and emotional intelligence, must be equally developed. While it is still a challenge to pinpoint which of these metrics is more important, I believe that we can improve our intellectual abilities and make better decisions by developing and strengthening our emotional intelligence and intelligence.
