The study of the various components of scientific research is of particular value. This is due to the fact that it gives awareness of how to correctly formulate such aspects as hypothesis, dependent and independent variables, experimental group(s), control group(s), and the results. Within the framework of this work, the article by Lukasik et al. (2019) titled “The relationship of anxiety and stress with working memory performance in a large non-depressed sample will be used as a basis.” Thus, as part of the analysis of this scientific source, an analysis of its components will be carried out.
The main topic of the analyzed article under the study is psychology and cognition. Therefore, the hypothesis of the study is to study how stress and the state of anxiety affect the performance of working memory (Lukasik et al., 2019). It follows from this assumption that the dependent variable becomes working memory performance. Further, the dependent variable within the framework of the studied scientific article becomes the stress and restless state of individuals. In addition, within the framework of the experiment, researchers did not allocate control and experimental groups; all participants underwent the same tasks. The results were obtained using Box-Cox transformation of raw results, linear mixed models, and factor analysis (Lukasik et al., 2019). These approaches contributed to the partial confirmation of the deduced hypothesis.
In conclusion, the analysis of the article “The relationship of anxiety and stress with working memory performance in a large non-depressed sample” provided an understanding of what aspects should be included in the scientific experiment. Among them, variables, the results of the work carried out, and, if available, the grouping of participants are particularly highlighted. The success of the confirmation or refutation of the formulated hypothesis also largely depends on the correct construction of the conducted research.
