Physical Development and Self-Discovery of Billy Elliot

Introduction

The movie Billy Elliot tells the story of young Billy Elliot, who lives in the English town of Everington during the miners’ strike in 1984. The main character’s physical development plays a vital role in his search for himself and his place in life.

Physical Development of Billy Elliot

At the film’s beginning, Billy is an ordinary 11-year-old boy with a casual appearance. He has a haircut like his father and older brother and wears simple clothes typical of the working class. His physical activity includes football with friends on the street and boxing at the local gym. In this environment in which they live, physical development is an essential aspect of their lives (Billy Elliot, 2000)—however, his physical development changes when he accidentally takes ballet classes instead of boxing.

Ballet requires grace and flexibility, and Billy begins to practice stretching and dance moves. He soon discovers that he has a talent and passion for ballet, and his physical development improves. Billy begins attending art school, where he receives professional ballet lessons. He trains regularly and develops his technique and skill. The physical demands of ballet become more intense, and Billy becomes more robust and more flexible. He begins to realize his physical capabilities and discover his potential.

However, Billy Elliot’s physical development is also related to his social and cultural environment. He grows up in the working class, and his family lives surrounded by miners whose work requires physical strength and endurance. This creates tension between Billy and his family, who need help understanding his passion for ballet and see his activity as unmanly and unsuitable for a guy in their midst. Billy must overcome this social barrier and show his family that his physical development in ballet does not make him any less courageous or successful.

Time frames and geographic location also influence Billy Elliot’s physical development. The film is based on events during the miners’ strike in 1984. It was a difficult time for the working classes in Britain, and Billy witnessed protests and clashes with the police. These events had physical consequences for the hero and his environment.

Conclusion

In summary, Billy Elliot’s physical development in the film is crucial to his personal and social growth. He overcomes physical and social barriers to achieve his goals in ballet, highlighting his strength and courage. At the same time, his physical development is linked to his culture and environment, contributing to his understanding of himself and his place in society.
