The majority of human and animal actions have a favorable relationship with brain activity. Humans developed from their animal cousins, the apes, according to the well-known theory of evolution, and the two have similar qualities (Rowlands, 2020). Uncovering the underlying principles that drive these actions is crucial to comprehending this behavioral link between humans and animals. The immediate environment, consequences, pleasure, and reality are among these principles.
The immediate environment principle states, first and foremost, that an animal’s or human’s behavior is a result of its immediate surroundings (Rowlands, 2020). Positive behavior will result from a safe and friendly setting, whereas restless behavior will result from a hostile environment. A behavior, is the way a person or animal reacts to a specific circumstance or stimulus. The environment has a significant impact on how events and stimuli are influenced. Humans and animals alike will develop instinctual habits to help them survive in a given environment.
The consequences principle, on the other hand, governs human and animal behavior. Humans, as well as animals, will act following the expected consequences. Consequences have a way of bringing people’s actions into line with the best potential outcome. Because both animals and humans favor good outcomes and despise negative outcomes, they behave in such a way as to avoid the latter. Thirdly, pleasure influences both animal and human behavior. Because both animals and humans have a strong desire for incentives, the fact that pleasure comes with a monetary reward emphasizes its power to influence behavior. Last but not least, the reality principle is directly opposed to the pleasure principle. Because of some reality barriers, both animals and humans will defer gratification and prefer to endure the pain until they reach maturity.
I have been able to put these ideas into practice in my daily life. The environment principle is visible when I enter a dark room. My hesitation to enter will betray a tremendous deal of fear in my behavior. The outcome of my action is determined by the consequences principle. For example, when I am in a group of friends, I frequently enquire about their studying methods to improve my reading mechanism. Furthermore, I am most aware of the pleasure principle when I am hungry. For instance, when I wake up in the morning, I’ll have to prepare meals to fulfill my hunger. Finally, I employ the reality principle in my daily activities. For example, rather than stealing food from my next-door neighbor, I will wait until I get home and prepare dinner.
When misapplied, these concepts, particularly reality, consequences, and pleasure, can either promote or harm interactions between individuals and social groupings. The reality principle improves interactions by preventing misunderstanding and conflict amongst people. On the other hand, because the reward may be at the expense of someone, the pleasure principle may result in bad relations among social groups. Because of the dread of a negative outcome, consequences lead to acceptable behavior. As a result, people in society will want to interact favorably with one another as often as possible to avoid hostility or even violence. Finally, if the immediate environment is friendly and safe, it leads to positive interactions among individuals (Rowlands, 2020). Individuals will be able to freely interact and have fun with one another.
