Meditation: A Path to Mental Well-Being

In the modern world, meditation is becoming more and more prevalent in people’s lives. This practice came from India and China, and if earlier meditation was associated only with religious practices, today scientists are studying the effect of this practice on the brain, productivity, and a sense of happiness, which is important for people struggling with mental disorders. Thus, meditation is a convenient and effective practice for people with psychological problems.

According to recent studies, meditation has a positive effect on improving mental well-being during times of crisis. According to a study focusing on the positive effects of meditation during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, meditation has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (Behan, 2020). Moreover, meditation and practices associated with it have been proven to reduce stress, blood pressure, cortisol levels, and other psychological markers of stress. Along with the benefits for patients, the general public, and persons with pre-existing mental illnesses, regular meditation practice can also assist those who work in the healthcare industry (Behan, 2020). Thus, meditation is proven to be beneficial in reducing stress and depression symptoms and thus is effective for people with mental disorders.

Moreover, meditation practices are easy to learn and practice for people independently. They are simple to learn and support online, with adults, kids, teenagers, and those with intellectual disabilities being able to benefit from learning meditation techniques (Behan, 2020). While meditative techniques are often taught in person by a qualified practitioner, there has been significant research into the use of online sources, meditation applications, and other technology to deliver such therapies. Hence, meditation is a convenient and accessible practice for most demographics.

Meditation is an effective technique that can give positive outcomes for its practitioners. It can decrease the symptoms of stress and depression, such as high blood pressure anxiety, and cortisol levels. Moreover, it is accessible, with people being able to start practicing without any investment or prior training. To summarize, meditation is both a beneficial and convenient activity, whose increasing popularity will benefit the mental health of people who are struggling with it.
