Power is the ability of an individual to greatly influence the occurrence of an event and have control over the outcome of the event. Powerful individuals are mostly characterized as individuals who always want the outcome of a particular event to favor them. This has resulted in the majority of them using persuasion to ensure that they get a positive response. Persuasion is the act of making other individuals strongly believe in your perception about a particular topic while discrediting other people’s opinions. This paper strives to determine the influence of power on an individual’s attitude in the modern world.
In the United States of America, persuasion is most used to reinforce, change, and shape responses to change other individuals’ attitudes towards a given message or topic. American society today is made up of powerful and powerless individuals who fight for self-validation by trying to persuade each other. Power, persuasion, and self-validation have been utilized by influential individuals in different scenarios such as elections. Various individuals eyeing different electoral leadership positions have to use their power to influence and persuade the members of the society that they are the best candidates for a given electoral position.
The people’s attitude towards individuals can only change when the sources of information effectively persuade those with less power. This can be done by encouraging them that they are in a position of a higher power role to increase their confidence in supporting a given leader. This technique is mainly used during the election period in the United States of America, where there are only two political parties, the Republicans and the Democrats. Candidates of both parties will have to use their power to change the people’s attitude to join their party using ideologies that will work in their favor.
