The Group Counseling: Principles and Performing

Group counseling is known for its effective intervention in all areas, especially in medical and therapeutic areas. There are many strategies for group work, but the essential aspect is the development of exercises. It is formulated by collective participation and team spirit development. Thus, it is important to analyze step-by-step directions for preparing, conducting, and processing the activity in a group.

The exercise should praise teamwork in order to bring the members together. It is constituted by the fact that group counseling involves the process of unification of certain people to make them feel part of the group (Erford, 2018). Thereby, the activity would be a game where each person throws a ball to the next participant by telling one an interesting fact about oneself. For each fact, the whole group receives one point, and the final task is to obtain a certain number of points. If someone misses the turn, the group loses one point. However, every participant may help by asking leading questions, not to lose the point.

Thereby, in this activity, every participant has one’s own task and the ability to help others due to well-thought questions. Moreover, the whole group has a common aim to obtain the necessary number of points. Thus, preparing for the activity includes establishing the necessary atmosphere, the number of points, and inventing the reward. Conducting the training is formulated by keeping participants interested in the process by thinking up some additional tricks for the game. Processing the activity implies the calculating of points and judging if the fact was exciting for others. Such action is effective to perform in group conditions since it implies teamwork and a common reward.
