Individuals, as well as organizations, go through a psychological process known as transition. The key to successful change management is not the outcome but rather how individuals let go of the past and embrace the new circumstance. It is critical to guide people through this transition to ensure that everyone accepts the change. When individuals leave the past behind, the change starts. Everyone proceeds at their own speed when it comes to decision-making. Some people are more eager to let go of the past and accept the new beginning.
Importance of Changes
It is worth noting that many people feel uncomfortable when faced with changes. This feeling makes everyone resist and resist them. Change is something that happens to people, even if they disagree with it, while the concept of transition refers to internal changes (Bridges & Bridges, 2019). This is what occurs to a person’s consciousness when they face new challenges or go through trials. The change can happen very quickly, while the transition takes place slowly and over a certain period of time. In the three-stage transition process, everything ends with a new beginning, but there are no clear boundaries of the steps in real life. The transition occurs individually for individual people and on individual issues; besides, some changes generate others. Thus, the critical fact is that people can be at several stages at the same time.
The change characterizes a particular situation, for example: moving to a new place, retirement of the previous management, redistribution of responsibilities in the team, revision of the pension plan. Moreover, the transition period is rather a psychological concept that defines a three-stage process during which people learn and accept the conditions of a new situation that has developed as a result of the change (Bridges & Bridges, 2019). Situational change is associated with certain innovations, and psychological transition depends on whether the former reality and the former identity will be rejected. To abandon the old, reorganize and start a new one – all three processes, taken together, change people’s worldview when changes occur in their usual order of things. The transition period is necessary in order for there to be a radical change in the very approach of people to doing work.
The Neutral Zone
In my opinion, at this point in my life, I am most likely in the neutral zone. Although, as noted earlier, it is common for a person to overcome changes at several stages at the same time. Therefore, it is pretty challenging to single out one side of the process, but certain characteristics confirm the point of view. Individuals learn to deal with the aftermath during this transition phase between the old and new realities, and psychological transformations occur. People create a new sense of self throughout this period.
A nurse should not only have practical skills in working with patients but also have knowledge that is used in other professions. As for the personal qualities of employees of this profession, the necessary moral indicators are sincerity, emotional culture, the ability to perceive the experiences of a neighbor, education in responsibility, a genuine understanding of one’s duty to other people. A trusting relationship must arise between the nurse and the patient. In the process of learning this profession, I had to face many barriers concerning my perception of myself and reality. It is really necessary for a nurse to master a lot of leadership skills that will make the experience of communicating with patients better.
During the training period, one inevitably has to face the understanding of how much the right choice was made in life. In the neutral zone, a person is faced with great uncertainty, which can affect the rest of my life. However, at such moments it is necessary to take into account the stages of becoming a professional that has already been passed. For me, this is becoming an LPN in February 2014 and an RN in November 2017 and work experience in various institutions. At such moments, it is possible to determine your life priorities and goals again, based on the achievements you have already received.
The primary duty of a nurse is to assist a doctor at all stages of his work and perform many additional actions. Such an employee has the right to provide pre-medical care, maintain part of the medical documentation, and perform a number of manipulations. This is a universal worker who should relieve the doctor’s workload as much as possible, freeing up time for him to diagnose and treat patients. In the learning process, it is necessary to take into account a lot of things that may be uncomfortable to work with in the future. Consequently, many practices in the nursing profession are constantly changing. It is necessary to be aware of your responsibility to the patient and directly to the doctor. All this leads to various stressful situations and doubts about the correctness of choice made. However, it is worth realizing the importance of the work experience already gained to overcome such difficulties. In addition, an important factor in solving problems is the constant support from the side of how this profession is perceived and appreciated by society.
