I have always been fascinated by the functioning of the human mind, especially that of a child, since I was young. My interest has not only been enhanced through studying a certain amount of basic psychology at high school but also buoyed by the curiosity to understand how a teenage person develops and views the world. A profession as a child psychologist after high school would match my aforementioned long-standing dream.
First, every parent desires their youngster to undergo healthy development, but it is not constantly and consistently clear whether a behavior change is a sign of an ordinary growth or a symptom of some abnormalities. An occupation as a child psychologist will help me to distinguish these differences. A comprehensive understanding of abnormal and normal psychological trends in teenagers will enable proper handling of behavioral and emotional matters while in their normal life or the school environment (Phares, 2020). The training will also allow me to impart to children the suitable mechanisms for dealing with emotions coupled with tips on how to flourish in every new developmental step they encounter.
Second, children often record various behavior alterations over their development cycle, and these can include hyperactivity, learning issues, or anxiety, among others. Becoming a child psychologist will empower me to aptly detect abnormal behaviors for safe growth without the children experiencing trauma. Moreover, the training can also assist me in averting, assessing, and identifying developmental delays or any oddity such as autism or other medical conditions (Phares, 2020). A child psychologist can observe the teenager’s advancement towards the indicators of development to ensure positive child growth is maintained.
Lastly, to successfully attain this magnificent feat, an advanced degree in psychology remains indispensable to the future specialist. It will provide deeper insights and knowledge of the profession for effective handling of ensuing responsibilities such as working in an educational setting to assist children in managing academic, emotional, and social issues. In addition to educational systems, I would want to create a difference in society by helping children distressed with psychological conditions, including mood, anxiety, and personality disorders, to have the required mindset.
