Influential Psychologists: Sigmund Freud and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

The field of psychology has experienced considerable growth and development over the years. The evolution of this field is contributed by psychologists that illuminated various psychological concepts. Each psychologist researched various facets of psychologists and added their unique perspectives about different phenomena. However, some psychologists have imparted more influence on modern psychology practice than others (Cherry). This paper seeks to discuss a few of the psychologists that have made a considerable contribution to the current practice of psychology.

Sigmund Freud is one of the most influential psychologists that influenced how psychologists practice their skills on patients. Sigmund was a neurologist from Austria; he argued that their external environment influences their psychological behavior. According to Sigmund, psychological behavior is connected with the cultural settings in context. Therefore, Sigmund introduced psychoanalysis, a method psychologists use to comprehend the psychological issues present among people raised in different settings (Cherry). The contributions of these psychologists are made apparent by his insight that helps psychiatrists to understand personality development, human growth and development, abnormal psychology, and clinical psychology.

Psychologists that should be added to the List in the Article Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi was an interesting psychologist that is renowned for the phrase, “flow, the secret to happiness.” The term “flow” refers to a state of immense concentration where a person gets fully engrossed in a particular activity that they forget about any other external stimuli. Csikszentmihalyi posits that “flow” creates an inner feeling of contentment otherwise interpreted as happiness. The psychological concept of Dr. Csikszentmihalyi is essential because the issue of happiness is problematic in the field of psychology.

Research Study on one of the Mentioned Psychologists Out of the psychologists mentioned above, I am mostly intrigued by the work of Dr. Csikszentmihalyi. The work of this psychologist is imperative in the current generation, where people are surrounded by numerous distractions that have made it considerably more difficult to pay attention to a particular activity and create “flow.” Dr. Csikszentmihalyi’s contribution to psychology seems like an excellent way to train the millennials and people from subsequent generations about creating happiness through passion and creativity consciously.
