It is easy to understand that the driving force on the path to achieving success is precisely motivation. I personally have no stimulus for doing necessary readings, including course materials and articles about preparing for classes. The lack of pre-reading leads to low course comprehending, further procrastination, and what is more, a heightened level of stress. In order to try and make additional efforts, it is necessary to create confidence that these efforts will lead to the desired result. Hence, the following questions are of the help:

  • E-> P: If I put all my efforts into reading assigned materials deliberately, will it make a difference for me?
  • P-> O: How will my reaching the goal be rewarded?
  • V: Will the reward be fulfilling for me personally?

Effort – Performance

First of all, it is necessary to assess if I can perform the task. The answer will be “yes” as I do not need any extra training for that. I can do it on sight if I realize that I have enough resources. Therefore, I do not face many obstacles on the way to reaching the goal. The primary resource to consider is time, as a busy student life demands attention to numerous activities. However, this issue is under my control, and, armed with specific time-management techniques, I could definitely find several hours a day to complete the readings. Nevertheless, I would prefer a more dynamic activity to read, as the process itself does not afford pleasure to me. Due to this, I can physically do it if the reward is appropriate.

Performance – Outcome

The second question is, what are the rewards of not skipping the preparation stage in my studies when it requires some effort: spending a great deal of time. First, taking responsibility for one’s results is a necessary skill that every successful student and employee wants to master. Second, it will contribute to my activity during the classes; I can self-actualize, gain confidence before tests and assignments, and help develop the skill of fighting procrastination much needed in everyday life. Finally, be prepared for every lesson can deprive me of thoughts about my inconsistency to cope with minor tasks in any sphere. Thus, if I start reading assigned papers, I can get good grades, work opportunities, self-respect, and trained skill.

Value of Outcome

The last step requires ensuring that the award is valuable for me personally. Is the effort of spending much time on an activity I do not mainly appreciate worth the result? Are such outcomes as good grades, work opportunities, self-confidence, and ability to fight procrastination satisfying enough for me at the given state and period? Now, I would say “yes”: starting to feel myself in control of my life is what I need.

Motivation Force (MF)

One should feel that the effort they are to put into the task will lead to anticipated results. The one who does not have a positive orientation about the intended consequences of achieving goals will have zero valences. In my case, the formula looks the following way: MF = 0.9 x 0.9 x 1. Thus, the motivation formula can be considered effective, for the indicators of all three elements are maximum or relatively high.
