National Well-Being Before and During the Pandemic by Tyler J. VanderWeele

The nation’s state before and after the corona virus pandemic is studied in the above article. Everyday life has changed in many ways due to the COVID-19 virus. The people’s welfare has been complicated through cases of unemployment, which has led to financial instability. Their health is also at risk due to forced seclusions from the social environment by rules such as online learning and working from home. The research was done, and it was found out that mental and physical health, financial stability, and life satisfaction have been affected (VanderWeele et al.). Conversely, the epidemic has been advantageous to some persons since it has enabled some parents, mostly fathers, to invest in their families, thus allowing their relationships with children to become stronger.

My Reaction about the Article

However, I agree with this article; it has been a difficult period where people have been concerned about others’ welfare, especially loved ones. Regardless of the high number of people affected negatively, this pandemic has positively affected a considerable percentage (VanderWeele et al.). There have been scandals of embezzlement of funds in some nations. This clearly shows that some individuals have been using this appalling occurrence for their sustenance. It is so unfortunate that such selfish behaviors are happening at this challenging period. Thus, those in authority must strive to work efficiently to avoid such unethical behaviors from reoccurring.

Other Important Features in the Article

In contrast to the above scenario, the article has also highlighted how well-wisher organizations and nations have emerged. These entities have voluntarily offered to help the most affected countries, especially third-world regions, fight the disease. Solidarity amidst this pandemic has been enabled as there have been great minds working tirelessly to find ways to curb further effects of the crisis. Doctors and other health care workers have been on the frontline offering care and treatment, and with the help of scientists, several vaccines have been developed (VanderWeele et al.). Furthermore, other global organizations are influencing funding, creating awareness, and educating the masses on how to lead an everyday life with this pandemic and any other similar incident. As individuals, each one has their own experiences and has learned some crucial lessons. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each individual to avoid other effects, improve health equity, and work together to save lives.
