Psychological Help to Refugee Children

For my final project, I chose a complex theme – psychological help to refugee children. Victims are confused, and refugees and displaced persons need psychological help. As in any emergency, psychological support is one of the essential components in stabilizing the situation. This theme shaped the nature of my entire experience while working on the project. The work was exciting for me, but at the same time very difficult. I spent a lot of time researching the psychological condition of refugee children because they are very vulnerable to stress. I had to get to know the heartbreaking stories of children who lost their homes at an early age. It was necessary for me to correctly define the type and intensity of the psychological aid required. Researching these stories also gave me a better understanding of the entire psychological state of people who are undergoing drastic changes. Of course, refugees face the traditional social and legal aspects of the legal and regulatory status, employment, housing, and welfare problems in their new residence and the most complex social and psychological adaptation problems.

However, working on providing psychological aid to such people has given me a better and more complete understanding of the situation, and I consider it a very useful experience. This project is also critical in the context of my overall experience at SNHU, as it has allowed me to delve into one of the many exciting topics we have studied. It also allowed me to move from a general profile to a particular field I would like to develop in the future. This project also helped me practice applying the theoretical knowledge I gained during my studies. During the project, I rethought the importance of using cultural competence in the medical field. It is vital during the provision of psychological care to people under acute stress. If I were to practice providing such care, the application of cultural competence would be to provide medical care and treat the patient professionally. This means that I would consider the whole background of the person, from their culture and nationality to the specific situation they find themselves in at the time.

It also means treating and treating all patients equally, regardless of their status, position, profession, or other external circumstances. I consider the correct application of interpersonal skills and knowledge of collaborative processes to be essential in the work of a health care professional. This has heavily influenced my choice of project topic because the stressful state of patients is one of the main situations in which a physician needs to apply these skills. In my practice, I use interpersonal skills most of the time. For example, I use the patient’s method to articulate the problems that brought them to the hospital. At this point, I am engaged in observing changes to improve the hospital’s quality of care and improve the patient experience. Hence, I know how important it is that the physician and the patient come to a similar understanding of the problem, the goals of the meeting, and the issues to be discussed. This helps to clearly understand patients’ needs and suggest changes to improve their experience.

As I hope to be promoted in my organization, I plan to take a healthcare management position. There are several essential steps I plan to take to ensure continuous improvement in health care quality. First, there is a need to improve the efficiency and quality of delivering quality health care to the public. This means that it is crucial to engage in and give proper attention to the professional development of health care providers. If I hold a position in hospital management, I will organize free training sessions for the staff on different topics every quarter. This will help ensure that staff is constantly sharing and filling up with new advanced knowledge and improving the quality of patient care.

To continuously improve the quality of care, it is also necessary to ensure that consumers have confidence in the ability of healthcare facilities to provide care of the right quality and volume. It is needed to educate patients and provide them with quality and comprehensive information about the services offered (Shirley, 2020). In my position, I will work on developing a new scheme for communicating with clients and providing them with up-to-date medical information. This scheme will be based on the maximum openness of the medical institution to clients. Such a policy will attract people because it will inspire trust in the institution and the physicians. It will also help improve the quality of care because transparency will work both ways. Patients will be able to talk openly about their dissatisfaction.

To summarize, working on this project has given me a lot of new knowledge and invaluable practical experience. It also helped me understand the field I am interested in and was the impetus for further development. The course I took at the university gave me much in-depth knowledge, which I will apply throughout my medical practice. It is not easy to study, but the knowledge and experience I gained are worth it.
