Clients Diagnosis and Current Problems
Antwone Fischer is a film dedicated to Fischer’s psychotherapy and childhood trauma, which activates outbursts of anger and aggression toward colleagues from the Navy in him. It also includes overly mobile personal boundaries of mental health, which specialist professionals do not approve of. From a series of flashbacks, we learn about Antoine’s troubled past, and his father died a violent death when the boy was still in the womb. Anton was born in a women’s prison and was immediately transferred to a foster family, where he was physically and sexually abused.
Dysfunctional Thoughts and Beliefs are Associated
Antwone’s future in the Navy depends on the results of the psychologist’s assessment, but he refuses to talk about himself. Having received only three arbitrary sessions for diagnosis, Davenport (psychologist) reacts to his patient’s resistance in the following way: three sessions will not begin until Fischer begins to speak. Weeks pass until boredom forces Fischer to talk about his past, which means that the trick worked.
How Did the Client Cope with His Problem and Changes in His Behavior?
Therapy progresses and goes beyond three sessions, and Davenport rightly connects Antwon’s difficulties in current functioning with his experience of past injuries. The primary therapeutic intervention of a psychologist in this regard is to encourage their desires. To get relief, Antwone must find his long-lost mother and face her and his sufferings and torments (Karen, 2019). He conducts a long search, which ends with standard Hollywood plots. Fischer confronts his mother in an emotional scene and then returns to the embrace of a newfound extended family. In this scene, he gains a sense of belonging and connectedness, the absence of which, as implied, explains all his problems.
The result of Therapy and Basic Knowledge
Therapy that took place outside of working hours can be considered a corresponding rejection of the style of psychiatry of managed treatment. This treatment could only offer selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, mood stabilizers, or, at best, several cognitive behavioral therapy sessions to manage inappropriate anger. This film paints a picture of psychiatrists and the process of psychiatry, which is extremely attractive on a superficial level.
