Mastering the brain and its work is essential to all psychologists because it influences behavior and mental state. Psychology refers to the study of the behavior and mental process of human beings. The brain is a vital body organ that controls memory, emotion, and thought functions linked to habits and conceptual approaches. This paper will intensely discuss how the brain works and how psychological helps the brain.
The human brain acts as the central command for all the body’s nervous system. It has six main functions, which are perception, emotion, somatic signaling, and cognition. The brain is divided into the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain region for better functionality. The forebrain is mandated to receive and process sensory information from the body. This division carries human processes such as thinking, perceiving, controlling motor functions, and understanding language (Barrett, 2009). The forebrain consists of the diencephalon, which comprises the thalamus and hypothalamus responsible for relaying sensory information, motor, and autonomic body control. The second division of the forebrain is the telencephalon which contains the cerebrum used to process information in the cortex.
The midbrain is the smallest region consisting of large nerve bundles that connect the forebrain and the hindbrain. The critical role of the midbrain is to process information related to hearing, movements, sleep, pain, vision, and arousal from body organs. This makes the midbrain region the most superior of the human body, which regulates involuntary functions. It is divided into two main parts, the Tegmentum and Tectum that receive blood supply from the basilar artery (Dubin, 2013).
The hindbrain is the lower part of the brain that extends from the spinal cord. It has two main features, the cerebellum and medulla oblongata, essential to its functions. The work of the hindbrain region is to coordinate fundamental duties of the body related to survival, such as motor activity and the respiratory rhythm. The medulla is adapted to transmit signals from the spinal cord to the brain and houses the reticular information of the body. The cerebellum is used to ensure timing and body movement that maintain balance and posture of the body (Hagerty & Williams, 2020). In addition, it is used for motor activities such as learning, securing smooth and balanced muscular functions of the human body.
Psychological helps the brain in many ways, and it is essential in development and growth. Psychology creates a better understanding of how human beings learn, interpret events, and make decisions. This process is followed by translating the knowledge in the brain into techniques that help better one’s growth (Papini, 2020). Metal process and social interactions are intertwined in that activities of the brain are affected by the behavior and mental state of the body. In addition, it helps the brain generate different feelings based on the mental state of the body.
In conclusion, the brain is programmed to receive information from the sensory organs and process and send messages back to the respective parts. It comprises various divisions that are used in relaying its functions to the body. The link between psychology and brain functions creates a phenomenon that allows people to understand the relationship between behavior and the brain. The response from diverse types of stimuli and generating emotions denotes how psychological is vital to the brain. The way human thinks, reacts, and feels is connected to the brain that relies on the mental functioning of the body.
