The Most Important Stage of Prenatal Development

Introduction

The most significant period of prenatal development is the embryonic stage. The reason is that it plays a crucial function in the development of the brain. This stage occurs after the formation of the neural tube within the first four weeks of conception. It is important to note that during the embryonic stage, significant body structures start to take form. According to studies, at least 20% of organisms fail at this stage, characterized by many chromosomal imbalances (Libretexts, 2020). Organisms are most vulnerable during the embryonic stage, especially if exposed to unhealthy substances. However, most potential mothers are aware of the dangers involved in this period.

Factors that Contribute to Resilience

During the prenatal period, risk factors are usually infections, maternal illnesses, exposure to toxins, or nutritional deficits. During the perinatal stage, adversities such as low birth weight, prematurity, and exposure to infections can be experienced. One of the factors that contribute to resilience is taking pre-pregnancy care. It comprises several activities before the pregnancy, which help the child overcome the common prenatal adversities. Such include developing a productive life, attaining a healthy weight, and avoiding drug abuse, among other measures. Taking prenatal care is another significant step towards a healthy pregnancy.

Potential mothers are expected to follow a safe diet plan, exercise regularly, and abstain from harmful drugs such as alcohol and tobacco (What Is Prenatal Care and Why Is It Important?, 2017). In addition, the particular medication should be avoided if deemed unsafe for expectant mothers, for example, herbal supplements and acne treatments.

Physical and Brain Changes That Occur as People Age

Moreover, several physical changes come with aging. As people age, their bones start to shrink; it is the reason why most people become shorter. Other common changes can be seen in the eyes as the lenses start to stiffen. For example, people usually develop eye problems and might need assistance to see closer objects. Changes in the brain and nervous system are evident among aged people. The most significant change is the loss of cells in the brain, contributing to memory loss.

My Opinion on Ill-Health and Aging

If there were a guarantee that someone would live long while still healthy, I would like to live 100 years. The reason is that during the old age period, the body becomes weak, and most people spend much of their time in and out of the hospital.
