Introverts in the World of Extroverts

Jonathan Rauch’s article “Caring for your introvert” was published in the Atlantic in June 2018. The author talks about different types of human essence, namely introverts and extroverts, emphasizing their differences. It is mainly about how extroverts represent introverts and how many misunderstandings the behavior of quiet people causes for those who created the rules of communication and life that operate in society. Thus, extroverts dominate social life, while introverts remain very misunderstood.

The main goal of his work is to describe the differences between introverts and other personality types and call on the public to understand and change the rules. The author argues that in the case when the situation of calm people becomes more understandable to others, the world will undergo significant changes (Rauch). If introverts ruled the world, it would undoubtedly be a calmer, more reasonable, and more peaceful place (Rauch). However, introverts remain misunderstood because, according to the author, they process information differently than other people.

Rauch writes his article for every person who would like to understand the way of thinking of an introvert, but the author addresses extroverts. It is due to the fact that these two personality types are considered opposites, so it is difficult for one to understand the other. At the same time, the author argues that the big problem lies precisely in extroverts because it is easy for introverts to understand them (Rauch). Thus, the problem arises that it is incomprehensible for some types of personalities to understand others, so the entire article may not resonate with the target group. Yet Rauch stresses that each individual should be studied and respected.
