I firmly believe that one’s development always lies in human cognitive abilities. While it is up to a parent to provide the necessary care and support, a child strives to learn about the world around them through an innate need. This impulse is inherent in all intelligent beings and is limited only by the capabilities of their brains. The drive for knowledge acquisition lies in an organism’s most basic functions.
I feel more inclined to agree with Jean Piaget’s theory of intellectual development since the author focuses his attention on cognitive processes and explains what goals a brain aims to achieve throughout a particular period. Piaget believed that a toddler actively collects information about the physical world and incorporates it into a system that will serve as a lens through which that person will experience everything. I think that Piaget’s work does a better job at showing a fluent transition between developmental stages and properly utilizes past knowledge for new goals.
I think that this theory will have a profound impact on my perception of the intelligence of others. By incorporating the ideas regarding the links between one’s thought processes and the level of development, I will be able to apply Piaget’s theory to recognize what basic foundations for future development were left undiscovered. Moreover, this theory will allow me to expand on the idea of knowledge acquisition processes and how creatures recognize new forms and learn new material. In conclusion, the theory can be applied in many social studies. It can be helpful in nursing for evidence analysis, in education for improvements in teaching techniques, and in psychology for a deeper understanding of unresolved issues in one’s past.
