Managing Oneself Article by Peter F. Drucker

In today’s economy, knowledge becomes the most valuable asset that enables comprehensive success. At the same time, knowing facts and principles is beneficial, but knowing oneself is crucial. In the 21st century, opportunities emerge for those who exhibit strong ambitions and desire to make a difference. However, the most prominent personalities in history are characterized by a well-defined ability to manage themselves. One of the key components of this process is the ability to perceive one’s strengths, which is a quality often lacking by most people. It is possible by analyzing the feedback received from various sources in the social, educational, and professional contexts. The identification of weaknesses does not usually pose problems, but strengths need to be discovered and developed. One of the aspects of the issue stems from a certain degree of contempt toward other areas of knowledge that people tend to exhibit when they master one field. In fact, the acknowledgment of differences between varying spheres and manners of work is a major step toward success.

For the process to be accomplished, it is equally valuable to identify the most efficient channel of information reception and processing, whether it is audial or visual, as well as effective learning techniques. In addition, managing oneself is possible through the presence of a strong, defined set of values. Spoken differently, a person striving for success needs to understand their priorities and motivations and remain loyal to them. By completing these steps, it is possible to distinguish the particular area in which values and abilities align to enable success. Evidently, excellence is rarely attained on one’s own, which is why the relationship aspect of the pursuit should not be disregarded. Furthermore, in addition to using one’s strengths, it is crucial to utilize the entire team’s strengths. This way, a person learns to manage themselves through analysis, planning, and precise execution, thus enabling long-term success.
