Mental Health in 12-18 Years Old During the COVID-19 Pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that people stay at home. However, often people do not feel enough motivation to do it and do not understand the reasons for staying at home. Many adolescents between the age of 12-18 get bored at home during lockdowns. They feel detached and separated from their friends, beloved ones, and classmates. Some teenagers may lose family members because of COVID-19. The project aims to help them to cope with these feelings. Besides, the project helps adolescents and their parents recognize such symptoms as eating or sleeping problems, signs of self-harm and so on. Adolescents can prevent some more serious problems by noticing early signs of mood changes. They can call a family doctor or psychologist to get a consultation.

After a successful health promotion project, positive results were noted. This included increased motivation in isolation and quarantine measures. Adolescents understand why it is so important that they study online and do not live in their houses often. Parents, in their turn, started to understand the mood of their children better. They have learned what signs can be dangerous and what to do if they find them. The number of family conflicts that occur due to people’s anxiety has decreased.
