Motivation and Emotions Regulation

Response 1

The provided article is an outstanding illustration of how motivation manifests itself in a dualism of approach and avoidance. The findings complement my own assessment of the notion of motivation since the underlying concepts have the potential to explain a multitude of health issues (Chasiotis, Wedderhoff, Rosman, & Mayer, 2021). Although the post mentions cancer, it is evident that the applicability of approach and avoidance extends further than direct health threats. It would be interesting to know how approach and avoidance motivation operates under the conditions of addiction. The latter is a major issue, which also contributes to cancer such as smokers. In addition, many individuals die from overdose cases, and thus, it would be interesting to know how addicts’ avoidance can be shifted towards an approach. Therefore, when working with animals, it is critical to understand how the transitions between approach and avoidance occur.

Response 2

The post explores a highly important subject of motivation and its interconnectedness with emotions. The statements complement my own observation about emotions being key drivers and sustainers of motivation. Further analysis reveals that many types of emotions can fuel a motivated state as well as behavior. Therefore, it would be engaging and informative to know whether or not all categories of emotions have a similar impact on motivation. For example, it could be that anger as a driver of motivation might not be sustainable or long-term, whereas happiness or fear could be more potent candidates. However, it should also be noted that the emotional states of an animal might not be as evident as of humans since the latter can communicate their feelings easily. The latter will require some form of the emotional read method.
