Sigmund Freud argued that two motives underlie all our actions: the desire to become a great and sexual attraction. Sex has been a taboo matter for a long time, so any talk about it drew the attention of all people, regardless of gender and age. Freud’s phenomenon is that he first voiced this subject from the standpoint of science. His primary idea was that above the physiology of sexual concerns is human psychology, which controls this process from the standpoint of the subconscious. By reporting about this, Freud located himself in the center of attention of world science and the public. Secondly, a feature of Freud’s psychoanalysis is that he diminished all the variety of unconscious matters and focused on the libido. Consciousness, in his opinion, performs only the functions of inhibition (Sibi, 2020). Thus, between the conscious part of a person’s mind and his sexual premises, Freud singles out the sexual matter. In addition, the emphasis on sex illuminates an important nuance: psychoanalysis is not about sex itself but sexuality. Freud disclosed how sexualized people’s desires, ideas, beliefs are; and how prominent a part it plays in people’s lives.
Freud’s views on human nature were exceptionally innovative for his time. Throughout the life of a psychologist, his work did not cease to cause resonance and criticism in the scientific community. Classical Freudianism was censured a lot for the idea that human conduct can be defined mainly by instinctive rationales (and, above all, by sexual instinct). Freud saw the causes of neurosis in the early suppression of these instincts (Sibi, 2020). The thoughts he voiced about child and female sexuality at that time sounded radical. Freud did not openly call society for a sexual revolution, but his daring views certainly pushed society in this direction.
